Unleash a golden era of American energy dominance by expanding LNG exports.

His first secretarial order, signed February 5, 2025, directed DOE to boost fossil and nuclear output, speed permitting and expand exports. The Biden-era pause on new LNG export approvals was reversed on day one; DOE has since authorized or reauthorized more than 17.6 billion cubic feet per day of LNG exports. Crude production set a record 13.6 million barrels per day in 2025. Delivered on the terms he set at his confirmation hearing, where he named expanding LNG and nuclear as his first priority.

Refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, drawn down under the previous administration.

Refilling genuinely happened through 2025, rebuilding the reserve to roughly 411–415 million barrels. Then the U.S. and Israel struck Iran on February 28, 2026, and the reserve was drawn down again to fight resulting price spikes — by mid-2026 it sat near 316–320 million barrels, close to a 43-year low, with Fox News reporting Wright defending the drawdown as necessary while Senate Democrats, including Schumer, called for tapping it further. The Department has since announced a 172-million-barrel "exchange" release, structured so companies borrow crude now and return it with a premium (returns beginning November 2026), which DOE projects will net roughly 200 million barrels back into the reserve over time — not a permanent sale, but not resolved yet either. GAO’s own 2026 report separately found aging infrastructure and one storage site left inoperable. Genuine progress, a real reversal, and a repayment plan that hasn’t delivered yet.
