Expand oil and gas leasing and permitting on federal lands.
Interior reports Bureau of Land Management oil and gas lease sales raised over $356 million in the first year, which the department says exceeds the total across all four years of the previous administration, plus a single New Mexico/Texas sale later topping $4 billion and a National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska sale setting a program revenue record. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain was reopened to leasing (82% of NPR-A and all 1.56 million acres of the ANWR coastal plain), though the first ANWR sale itself drew only $3.7 million with major producers staying away. Interior also proposed rules shortening public-comment windows on new leases from 90 days to 10. Note the sourcing: the headline revenue figures are Interior’s own and self-reported rather than independently audited, and reporting has separately found the secretary meeting with an oil executive whose company benefited from expedited permits on land the secretary’s own family leases.
