Address PFAS ("forever chemicals") contamination and protect drinking water.
A genuinely mixed record. EPA announced a broad PFAS action plan in April 2025, kept the enforceable Biden-era limits on the two best-studied compounds (PFOA and PFOS), and later announced nearly $1 billion for small and rural water systems to address contamination. But the agency also proposed extending utility compliance deadlines from 2029 to 2031, rescinded limits on four other PFAS compounds entirely, terminated more than $15 million in PFAS research grants, and cut the Clean Water State Revolving Fund — the main mechanism for removing PFAS from drinking water — by 90% in its budget request. Zeldin has repeatedly requested delays in the court case over the Superfund liability designation he says he supports. Real action on some fronts, real rollback on others, by the agency’s own hand.
